I consider it an art and a sport.

Because it gave me exercise in the winter.

1) its both

2) its fun, awesome workout, fantastic shows

3)Generally speaking yes, though we sometimes get the one bad comment from the city groups cuz we're the only highschool that does it.

4) Performing experience

5) they support me

6) only by the ignorant laymen. it makes my blood boil whenever we get even mentioned in the same breath as "Cheerleaders" or "Flag twirlers"

7) You bet your ass it is X3

8) in alot of ways, most definetly

9)i get so pissed off when anybody says "oh i can do that" and then i feel proud when someone says "wow i wish i could do that" so yeah it is a challenge, would i be in guard if it wasnt? XD

1. What do you consider winterguard (a sport, art, ect.)?
All of the above and more. It is a lifestyle, a passion, an artform.

2. Why did you join the guard?
Because the thought of having a six foot pole, a sword, and a rifle in my possession on school property was pretty much awesome.

3. Do you beleive your guard gets enough respect?
From our school? Not at all. I'm so sick of being called the "fat, ugly, lazy cheerleading rejects" and being told that we "don't have to work our asses off like the dance team because we don't break a sweat". None of this is true. Don't break a sweat? pffft. You've obviously never been to guard practice. And if we were lazy, we would not be doing guard, we would be cheerleaders, thank you very much. You are simply jealous because all of the boys are awed by our ability to throw weapons ten feet in the air and catch them.

4. What have you gained from being in winterguard?
Muscle tone, friends, stress, nerve damage, an experience that has forever changed me, and the feeling that I belong to something important.

5. What do your parents/friends think of you being in guard?
Umm...not much, but we don't talk about it.
Let's just say I've heard the "why don't you join a real sport?" way to often.

6. Have you come across anyone who believes guard is stupid/worthless?
Yes. Of course they are dead wrong. And they usually play football or stumble around with a trombone.

7. Is winterguard a sport?
I'm not sure "sport" even begins to cover it.

8. Is it an art form?
It is. And if you don't think that, you have never been in those stands and seen all of the emotion and effort and pure grace that goes into those perfomances.

9. Is it a challange?
Yes it is. Is it worth it? Definately.

Oh snap....I'm a bit late. :noes:

1. What do you consider winterguard (a sport, art, ect.)?
A sport, and art, a lifestyle for some.
2. Why did you join the guard?
I wanted to be a part of marching band without playing my flute so I did colorguard. After that ended, I heard winterguard was even better so I tried it. xD
3. Do you beleive your guard gets enough respect?
No. Our guard is hated by the band for the most part and our band (even though it's award-winning) is almost completely unknown to our school. So winterguard is even more obscure.
4. What have you gained from being in winterguard?
Bruises, stress, confidence, the ability to yell right back at my instructors when they've crossed a line they shouldn't have. Closer friends, better skills with equipment and dance. An experiance I'll never forgot for the rest of my life.
5. Do your parents/friends think of you being in guard?
My friends are all pretty much in it or have been so they're cool with it obviously. xD My family thought I'd quite right off but I didn't so they're cool and more supportive now.
6. Have you come across anyone who beleives guard is stupid/worthless?
Are you kidding me? Almost everyone in our band thinks that. D: I think the cheerleaders respect us more sometimes. And that's saying a LOT.
7. Is winterguard a sport?
Completely and totally. It's a sport and then some.
8. Is it an art form?
How could it not be?
9. Is it a challange?
Fuck YES! o-o Oh my god, yes. It's even more of a challenge when I want to kill my instructors but I can't. xD But yes, it is in many many different ways.
